2004 Provenance, To Kalon, Cabernet Sauvignon
Wine Spectator, Score 91:
"Complex aromas of red and black currant are tight and concentrated, joined on the palate by herb, black olive and cedar notes. A big yet backward wine that should only get better. Decant for now. Drink now through 2012. 1,391 cases made." –JL

2005 Hoopes, Oakville, Cabernet Sauvignon
If you are not yet familiar with Hoopes, you might want to keep an eye on this Oakville property. These folks were growers first, who caught the "we want to make our own wine" bug after selling to some top Napa wineries. In 1999 they decided to produce their own wine with their own label.
One of the favorites at Taste of Oakville, the 2005 release stole the show with it's lush dark fruit, black cherry and raspberry dominating along with notes of spice, clove and earth.
Hoopes is a labor of love; you can taste the passion and distinctive quality in this handcrafted, ageworthy Cabernet. Yet again, this was clearly one of the best wines poured. And that's among 80 top-shelf Oakville Cabs including Screaming Eagle and Harlan.
